If I was stranded on a desert island and could only have ONE kitchen tool…OK, that’s just silly for more than one reason! First, I would NEVER be stranded on a desert island and second, how would I plug it in?? So let me start over! If there was ONE kitchen tool that I couldn’t live without, it would be…..drumroll please….my INSTANT POT!!! The Instant Pot will change your life!!!
Never before in the history of my cooking, have I ever had something so AMAZINGLY cool as my Instant Pot! If you haven’t heard of it, let me take a moment to introduce you! Meet, the ‘You’re never gonna wanna be without it, greatest gadget ever created, gotta have it, miracle meal maker!’ I LOVE my Instant Pot! Seriously! There’s my husband and of course my kids, my friends and then my Instant Pot!
IT’S SO VERSATILE
The Instant Pot has the ability to cook rice (to perfection), make finger-licking BBQ ribs, make boiled peanuts, (I’m a northern girl with a southern heart!) cook a soup from RAW, frozen chicken, (and FAST!) cheesecake, (a good desert every once in a while never hurt anyone!) make yogurt, hard cook eggs, even make chapstick!
I’m telling you! Really, the possibilities are endless. If you can dream it up, you can probably cook it in the instant pot! This post would be too long if I told you all the things I make in mine!
IT’S GREAT FOR EATING HEALTHY
If you like clean eating such as Whole 30, then you are in for a treat! When my family did the Whole 30 challenge last October, I made most of my meals in the Instant Pot.
It was so easy to throw everything in the pot and hit start. I can make delicious, healthy meals without putting in a whole lot of time or effort.
IT SAVES TIME
I don’t know about you, but my time is sparse. There isn’t time to slave in the kitchen for hours, yet I want to feed my family healthy and wholesome meals.
The Instant Pot will keep food warm for up to 10 hours after being cooked. This is GOLD!! I am able to cook when I have the time and have it ready up to 10 hours after I make it.
If you work full time, this can be a lifesaver! Or if you just need to make your meals when you HAVE the time, the Instant Pot will help.
IT CAN COOK FOOD FROM FROZEN
I couldn’t believe that either! One of my favorite things to do is throw in a bag of frozen chicken breasts, chop up a few veggies, add water and some spices and hit start.
I choose the manual mode and hit 7 minutes.
Now, to be fair, it takes more than 7 minutes to complete, but the actual cooking time is 7 minutes. Total time from start to finish (the Instant Pot needs to come up to pressure, cook, and then come back down) is about 30-40 minutes.
But…that’s HANDS OFF, no stir, no fuss time to cook an entire chicken soup from FROZEN! If I want a creamy base that fits with my non-dairy family, then I add 2 cans of full-fat coconut milk and some green beans (from frozen – I add them after so they don’t turn to mush during the cook time). (It’s Whole 30 compliant too.)
I don’t know of any other way to get a full bodied chicken soup that tastes like it’s been simmering all day in such a short time. It’s a great option for the times when sickness strikes. I always throw some chicken soup in in the Instant Pot to nurture my sickies!
I also love to cook a frozen package of hamburger in the Instant Pot. It’s terrible, but I seem to have trouble remembering to defrost my meat (see above! 🙂 ). Thankfully, my Instant Pot has saved me on more than one occasion!
THERE’S NO TIME LIKE THE PRESENT
Maybe you’re on the fence about whether to treat yourself to the Instant Pot. Or maybe this is the first time you’ve heard of it. I cannot say enough good about it! (Can’t you tell?) I recommend you check it out and see what the Instant Pot can do for you!
