The other day my baby played happily in his playpen without a care in the world. He was so engrossed with the toys I had given him that not even ALL six of my other children running through the house repeatedly, took away his attention.

In fact, I took complete advantage of the time he was occupied and used it to catch up on a few things that had been let go. I didn’t really think much about his current situation. Just that I knew he was safe and playing contentedly.

And then I walked through the room:

Immediately, he put down the toys he was playing with, stood up, and locked eyes with me. He fixated his view on me and smiled adoringly. I wasn’t exactly sure if It was me that fascinated him, or if it was that suddenly his attention was disrupted and now he realized someone else was in the room.

I decided to test my question out by hiding around the corner and checking to see what would happen.

Sure enough, he followed me with his eyes and looked quizzically for me.

As soon as I popped out from behind the wall, his huge smile returned and he zeroed in on me again.

It was true! It was me he was looking for and the adoration in his eyes was enough to make my mommy heart melt. He made me feel so amazing!

I felt so much joy in my heart, knowing that this little person thought I was awesome and it overwhelmed me with satisfaction.

My baby was adoring me!

And then it hit me:

You see, the wonders of this world and all of my ‘toys’ sometimes take my attention away from my Savior!

I sit in the middle of my life completely engrossed by what I’m focused on, never looking up from what I’m doing to remember that I’m in the presence of Jesus!

Sometimes it’s ‘fun’ and ‘excitement’ that distracts me and other times it’s ‘discouragement’ and ‘frustration’. I’ve found in my humanness, it doesn’t take much.

I realized from watching my baby’s example that I haven’t adored Jesus lately.

My eyes have been fixed on what distracts me (good or bad.) When I saw my little boy drop what He was doing to be completely engrossed in me, God allowed me to realize that I need to do the same thing with my Lord and Savior.

I need to spend time adoring Him!

There are some days when I know I will never accomplish everything on my to-do list. From sunup to sundown I chase after goals, priorities, tasks, and other things that really don’t matter in light of eternity. Yet, I find it so incredibly hard stop and savor the richness of Christ. And it’s only because I let everything in this life stand in the way.

I’m thankful God sent me a reminder in the example of my baby. And I hope that you’ll let my story change you, too.

You adore Jesus by making Him your first priority.

You spend time in His Word and you worship at His feet.

You read Scripture back to Him in awe of Him and sing of His wonderful works.

Tell Him how valuable He is to you.

Keep your gaze fixed on Him.

Let Him know that you recognize that He, alone, is your life source.

Like my baby, let go of your ‘distractions’, your ‘joys’, your ‘fears’, and anything else that keeps you from acknowledging His worth in your life.

Set apart a Quiet Time to soak in His Word.

Sing praises to Him

Tell of His greatness.

And His awesomeness.

Remind yourself that He saved you.

To quote the late, great, Franny J Crosby:

Praise Him! Praise Him! Jesus, our blessed Redeemer!

Sing, O Earth, His wonderful love proclaim!

Hail Him! Hail Him! Highest archangels in glory;

Strength and honor give to His holy Name!

Like a shepherd, Jesus will guard His children,

In His arms He carries them all day long.

Praise Him! Praise Him! Tell of His excellent greatness;

Praise Him! Praise Him! Ever in joyful song!

Praise Him! Praise Him! Jesus, our blessed Redeemer!

For our sins He suffered, and bled, and died.

He our Rock, our hope of eternal salvation,

Hail Him! Hail Him! Jesus the Crucified.

Sound His praises! Jesus who bore our sorrows,

Love unbounded, wonderful, deep and strong.

Praise Him! Praise Him! Jesus, our blessed Redeemer!

Heav’nly portals loud with hosannas ring!

Jesus, Savior, reigneth forever and ever;

Crown Him! Crown Him! Prophet, and Priest, and King!

Christ is coming! over the world victorious,

Pow’r and glory unto the Lord belong.

Now more than ever, there are millions of things vying for your attention. You could spend your entire day filled from morning til night, pushing time to adore Jesus right out of your life.

And adore Jesus!

Don’t let everything in this life stand in the way of cherishing Christ. Savor His richness and His goodness.

My friend, pause for just a minute and relish Jesus. Spend time just adoring him. Show him that you love him by dwelling in His presence.

Just like I was delighted with the adoration my baby gave me, God delights in our praise.

‘but the Lord takes pleasure in those who fear him,in those who hope in his steadfast love.’ Psalm 147:11 (ESV)

Have you adored Jesus lately? Have you spent time at His feet, basking in His presence? Stop what you’re doing right now and look up! Lock eyes with the Savior and adore Him!
